Emotions as Motivational Tools! Grief…

New Photo w Logos

There are some fundamental truths that are universal to everyone on this planet. We are all born, we all eat, and we all drink water. Another fundamental truth that we all must face is that we will all deal with the loss of loved ones along this journey called Life. It’s not something you can escape from. There is no way to pay your way out and no matter whom you are, rich or poor, you will have to grieve at some point during your life. This is what makes us human. This is what makes us know that we are alive. How you deal with this emotion is one of the puzzles wrapped within the enigma of the human experience.

The Choices

My own grief is deep. I have two choices:

1. I could retreat within myself and be consumed by self-doubt and motion paralysis. This would not be conducive to any constructive endeavor.

2. I can take all of these feelings, all of this sadness, all of this incredible angst, and channel it to mold and construct something that will be beneficial to me in the future and a living memorial for the loved one I lost.

Some of the most incredible artwork, sculptures, and musical compositions have been crafted by artists who were in the throes of deep sadness and melancholy for a loved one who had passed. The feelings will not subside quickly and time will be the only salve that will make the wound less painful but never gone. I know there are people out there like me, people who are hurting and are looking to channel their incredible hurt into something creative. I urge you to join with me and unleash your inner talents to create a financial structure that will be beneficial to you and your entire family going forward. If you can take your hurt, your sadness, and tap into the universal feelings and emotions that all human beings on this planet feel, you can move on and help yourself with the healing process.

Use your Inner Force to Create

I will never forget, nor do I want to ever forget, the happy times that I shared with Susan. As I said in one of my Facebook posts that was a direct quote from the Bard: “It is better to have loved and lost, then to have never loved at all.”  I know there are people out there who are hurting, and can easily understand the pain that I am feeling at this point. I ask you to join with me and channel and focus all of your emotions toward a different outcome. Together you and I can help each other and overcome our tragedies while building a bridge that will secure us financially in a future time.

My Condolences

Anyone out there who has suffered the loss of a loved one is in my thoughts and prayers at this very sad painful time. I know how you feel firsthand. If you can find it in some deep recess of your being to completely focus your attention you can channel all of this pain and hurt and have it do an incredible amount of good for you and your family in the long run.

Naked Blogging!

The Book Kahuna

I’ve been meaning to start doing this for a while now and I thought this would be the best time to get this going. I’ve been blogging for about three years now and I have put many bells and whistles into my blog-posts including photos, videos, and music videos. I thought it was time to cut to the unvarnished part of the blog structure.

What makes someone read a blog?

What gets someone interested in what you have to say?

How do you get people to look at what you’re talking about?

I think the answer to these questions is to get to the point where all you’re doing is putting words, sentences and paragraphs into the mainstream that build concentric ideas people can follow and are relatable. It’s not a difficult thing to get moving on writing about what is happening with EPUB, or why marketing is so important, or even why customer service is dead. The basic form-follows-function of the blog is to inform your readers and make sure that the content you’re producing is in a structure that is easily understood and summarily executed so that your message gets across.

No, I am not sitting in my home office naked right now doing this blog. I know that many of you are also glad that I’m not home naked writing this blog as well. It all comes down to the words, the content, and the direction on where you want your audience to go. Also, another important part of this process is what is the feeling you want your audience to come away with? Where are you driving them? What is the focus of where you are going with your written words? For the next few weeks I am going to be producing blog posts that will just be blog posts.  There will be no videos, no photos, and just the logo appearing on the top of the blog post itself. I want feedback from everyone who looks at my blog. I want to know what you want me to produce. I want more interaction with my readers. I want to hear from you letting me know what you are thinking, what directions I should be pursuing and topics I should be articulating in this blog.

I received a message on Facebook the other day from one of my friends that said there was a man who is trying to shut down bloggers because they are devaluing and undermining the content streams of authors who write for traditional publishing operations. I think this is a big mistake. There are plenty of good writers who do not work for large publishing operations or write for a living for that matter.

My answer is, and always will be: I blog therefore I am!

Blog on with Team Have-It-All!

The Book Kahuna

I started blogging about three years ago. I’ve always loved to write and I thought that this would be a new creative outlet for me to get my words out into the public spotlight. I’m not one who writes for other people’s praise, I write because I love to write. There is freedom in putting together sentences, paragraphs and chapters in a coherent order. Why not look into a blogging system that can actually help to build a following in a business while you are doing something that you love?

I started The Book Kahuna because I wanted to be in a position to help authors and young professionals new to the publishing industry be successful in their chosen professional arenas. Authors need a hand because the publishing industry is not one that can be easily picked up without a very large learning curve taking place. People young to publishing are always put in a position where they have a passion to be part of an industry that for the most part does not pay all that well. This pay scale differential is what puts young publishing professionals in a position to look at moving up the ladder as quickly as possible. I know how this works because I have seen it firsthand having started in the publishing industry at $13,000 a year in 1984. Even by 1984 standards, this amount of yearly wage was pretty pitiful. The trick is to pick up what you can at publishing stops along the way, meet people and network, and continue looking so that you can get to the corner office.

I Meet my Sponsor

At a CIPA (Colorado Independent Publishers Association) meeting in September, I happened to befriend my current sponsor in the Empower Network, Leslie Lane Peabody. She started to tell me that the Empower Network could actually be a good supplemental way to help me get my words out and also help to grow a thriving side business if I so desired. I resisted joining for a few months, and finally relented and joined in on one of the teleconference calls to hear what the Empower Network was all about through the team that Leslie was affiliated with “Team Have-It-All”. I was immediately struck by the camaraderie of the individuals in the group. There was a feeling that no one was going to be left behind and we were all focused on building a reliable and productive interdependent team. It was this family overview that pushed me to join and become part of this team and network.

I have always been gifted with being able to put words to paper. When I was in college one of my English professors kept urging me to go into creative writing. In my mind I currently look at it as the times have finally caught up to me with the Internet and blogging structures. I am now able to write and be creative on my terms. This is an extremely exhilarating feeling and since I am doing this anyway, being part of the Empower Network is a side benefit to help me grow multiple streams of income. I urge you all to read the disclaimer on my blog post about any future finances and revenue streams through the Empower Network. If I can get paid to build a structure and also to help people whether in my group or outside than the Empower Network is everything I need and can be the same for you.

Speech-To-Text Recognition Software: Writing Made Simple!

Don and Derek

The Book Kahuna

Now as I may have mentioned in a blog post before, I am definitely a gadget guy. I think technology is here to help us in any way, shape or form and to make various actions in our lives much easier than in days past. I am not the greatest typist in the world, and when it comes to writing blog posts it could take me roughly 2 hours to put down a couple of hundred words and get them up on my blog. I’ve been thinking about using some of the speech to text recognition software that is out on the market to speed the process.

I Speak, Therefore I Am

I’m not here to endorse any products but I just wanted to go through some of the occurrences as I have been using various software products to get to a finished blog post. Now in going through the Laptop Millionaire’s methodology, Mark Anastasi suggested that the speech-to-text software to use is the free Audacity software that you can download very easily. Unfortunately I was unable to get the Audacity software to download and extract on my laptop. So much for using Audacity as my speech-to-text software of choice.

My best friend advised me that if I had Microsoft Office 2007 there was built-in speech-to-text recognition software within the office utilities. I was overjoyed to hear this and thought that all of my problems would be solved by using this tool in the Microsoft Office Suite of utilities. I went into control panel, found the ease of access tab, then found the speech-to-text recognition and started to set up my microphone for immediate use. There might be an issue with this particular office tool being from the 2007 Microsoft Office Suite instead of the 2010 Microsoft Office Suite. The tool itself in the software may have been advanced to be more receptive to understanding particular words and phrases  in the 2010 version than in the 2007 version. I found myself continuously dictating and proofing lines, which was a drag on the time it takes to get a 500 to 700 word blog post completed. I knew that if I got to the point where I could just speak and my words would be written I could greatly increase the speed with which I completed blog posts and I could get them out for public viewing in half the time.

Rhymes with “Wagon”

A few months ago I started to see commercials on cable television about a new speech-to-text dictating software called Dragon. The speech to text recognition in the commercials gave me the impression that this software was highly skilled at picking up all the nuances of any and all dictated speech patterns. There are many products where the commercials are not truly reflective of the product in use, but after 2 to 3 months of watching and struggling with the Microsoft speech-to-text software I decided to take the plunge and pick up the Dragon software. Since I am in the process of doing 40 blog posts in 40 days, I thought the time was right to kickstart my dictation process and get my blog posts completed in a much quicker fashion. I could not have made a better decision.

After initial installation from a downloaded file, the Dragon software had me read through a couple of passages of text at varying degrees of difficulty.  The first one was John F. Kennedy’s Inaugural Speech, and the other being an excerpt from a Dilbert spin-off book about Dogbert’s management style. After completing these two and training my dictation software I can honestly say I’ve found the way to knock off blog posts in a very quick and succinct fashion. I now have the ability to spend a weekend to write the better part of an e-book that I can now place for sale on Amazon. I can knock off 10 articles very quickly. I can use my dictation software to write articles and copy for outside individuals.

The Future is NOW

Dictation software like Dragon is not an option in this day and age for anyone who is going to be writing and authoring content for mass dissemination. It is not an option because it is a necessity.  I am extremely happy with the software.
